Excited to say Tupac is finally finished!! It was a huge project to undertake but definitely worth it. He’s the first in a series of pop culture icons I’ll be drawing throughout the next 6 months.
Do you guys have any ideas of who else I might be creating? 🙂
Who doesn’t love sitting in an empty grass field overlooking The Rocky Mountains at a desk you hauled in yourself? Random I know.
Awhile back I wanted to get out and create my own art studio for the day. Seeing new things, meeting new people and experiencing different environments are really important to me. It’s where I start feeling the most creative. So instead of sky diving, bungee jumping or planning a big trip out of the country…I decided to do something closer to home (and a lot easier on the wallet). Last fall, my sister and I carried a desk, chair and everything else I would need for an art studio to a huge open field overlooking The Rocky Mountains. It was a magical day and one I’ll never forget. Surrounded by nature, crisp air with no distractions, except for the random flock of birds. I hope you guys also break free and create an office somewhere different (even for a few hours;). It’s worth it.
Continuing my ‘Best of Series’ I wanted to share some of my finds in Wellington, New Zealand. Wellington is a funky town, and the center of government for Kiwi’s. It’s beautiful, rugged and fun.
PS. The shot above was taken on the Kapiti Coast – if you can do a day trip from Welly head north to these stunning beaches.
Best Cafe: Maranui
Best Harbor : I recommend finding a cafe on the bay on a warm day and sitting outside with a chardonnay.
Best Coffee: Cafe Supreme
Best Place to Stay: Gypsy Caravan
A few other places to note: Fidel’s and Scopa on Cuba St. do awesome pizza, Southern Cross does a great dinner and has a wonderful patio out back, Havana Bar is the place to go for strong drinks and late night dancing. For day trips definitely go by the National Museum – Te Papa, checkout the scenic lookout over Wellington on Mount Victoria and for a great dinner head to Sweet Mother’s Kitchen… just be sure to leave before it gets too late or you’ll get lost in the sea of scantily cad, wasted 20 something’s that flock to the sub-par bar scene on Courteney Place late at night.
I hope you all are awesome.
I wanted to share my best finds in Auckland, New Zealand. Check them out below. Have a wonderful weekend!
PS. In the photo above: My Auckland wings are on one side of Ponsonby Central. Ponsonby Central is the home to many of the best places to go for food and dessert in Auckland! The cute outfit I’m wearing is from a super fun boutique called Ruby on Ponsonby Road. Check it out!
Best Market: Ponsonby Central
Best place to find awesome food, produce and fun.
Best Donut: Foxtrot Parlour
Best donut in New Zealand. They literally give you a syringe of chocolate creme to fill your own donut!
Best Ice-Cream Sandwich: The Dairy Coffee from Eighthirty
Best Burgers: Burger Burger
Best Inn: The Great Ponsonby Art Hotel
Awesome self-contained rooms complete with tea, biscuits and an afternoon honor bar. We felt so incredibly welcomed and happy in this super sweet Inn. We had to miss the delicious complimentary breakfast our last day so the owners made us special breakfast egg sandwiches to take with us to the airport. This is New Zealand hospitality at its finest!
Best French Food: Crepes-a-go-go
My sister lived in France for a long time and she says this is the first time she’s had a crepe that rivaled those she had in Paris. The couple that owns the restaurant are French and make SERIOUSLY good food. Get Le’Fab… it’s amazing.
Best Bar: Revelry Bar
Best Boutique Hotel in the CBD: Hotel DeBrett
When you stumble off your international flight and need to rest, this is your hotel. The beds are the most comfortable beds we’ve ever slept in, the continental breakfast is delicious with lots of New Zealand delicacies and they have a complimentary wine hour in the afternoon!
Overall Best Area to Hang Out In: Ponsonby
I miss New Zealand already!
I am really happy today to feature Chloe and my first tattoo commission! Chloe’s awesome husband commissioned a piece from me for his beautiful wife for a Christmas present and last month Chloe had it done. I can’t tell you how awesome it is to see my work in tattoo form. You look amazing lady!
Here are a few pics of the process.
