My piece in the World Trade Center is done!!!! No

My piece in the World Trade Center is done!!!! No words for what it means to me to not only be back in the city I love but creating a piece for the @wtc . The mural is focused on what the island of Manhattan was before it was colonized. I read the book Mannahatta cover to cover, along with hours of online research, to help educate myself on what was here on the island more than 400 years ago. The mural starts with the ocean and continues through the marshlands into an oak forest. There are native flowers that were once found on the island, as well as animals such as the heath hen and passenger pigeons (now both extinct). I also wanted to highlight the amazing Lenape Tribe - the tribe that lived on the island of Mannahatta before anyone else. Within this piece I included a wigwam (their traditional shelter 400 years ago) and a mound of mussel and clam shells on the beach - a favorite staple of the Lenape people who lived on Mannahatta. I also included a number of corn stalks with corn seeds flying away - representing The Tale of Corn Woman, a reminder to be thankful for the things you may take for granted (look it up!). Huge shoutout to @silversteinproperties for not only commissioning this piece but for also inspiring me to push myself creatively and to learn about something completely new. This piece was an incredible experience from start to finish. I'm hoping anyone who walks through it, will be transported to another time and place Xx #whatliftsyou #mywtc
